Part of the residue of the ‘Fall’ of humanity is hidden-ness. Adam and Eve went from being ‘naked and unashamed” to being fearful and ‘covering up’. As a missionary is who also a counselor I know and believe in the value of openness and transparency. But I often, too often, hear the voice of the One who loves me whispering questions to me. “Ray, was the completely true”? “Did that last statement need to be slanted in that direction?” His lovingly penetrating questions force me to look at “my need” to present information/myself in the “best light” or to shape my story – just a bit. I don’t know about you, but the Lord really holds my feet to the fire on this one. Ultimately, when my squirming is over and I step into a deeper level of truth, I can sense a shift toward freedom.
