Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us is God …(2 Corinthians 1:21)
But by His (God’s) doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption….(1 Corinthians 1:30)
I recently read these scriptures and experienced two effects. The first was a deep sense of gratitude. Gratitude really is too light of a word, but it’s the best I can come up with. I mean, let your mind and your heart wrap around the power of those verses. It is no less than the Most High God that established my life in Christ. It was “by His doing” I have been eternally betrothed to the Savior. It was His idea, His action, His plan, and at His expense. It really is beyond comprehension. It really is too good to be true – but it is.
And not only I am planted deeply into the heart of Salvation, but in that planting a flow of Life begins. He nurtures me with His wisdom. His righteousness begins to transform my very nature (sanctification). In addition to that, in a very real way He restores the damage that was done to my life – by me!
The second impact I experienced from those verses was astonished humility. Humbled by the awesomeness of God’s heart and astonished that it is for me.
We can only come to one conclusion: we are wanted, desired, longed for, chosen, prized, valued, costly, and by God’s choice, people worth dying for. Loved!
As we walk out this life of faith, with its moments of both delicious joy and nauseating pain. When the path forward seems to be hidden by the fog of confusion. When our circumstances seem to be giving us mixed messages about life. We can know this for sure: We are His, by His doing – and so we shall remain.
